If I have to rank, mascara would be the third of my must-have make up products (eyebrow pencil and blusher as first and second respectively.) In fact, 50% of women would choose mascara if they were asked what product to pick if they could only choose one. Mascara is used to make eyeleshes appear darker, thicker and longer to accentuate and draw more attention to the eyes.
Tried four different mascaras from Wastons
I put on 4 different mascaras I bought at Watsons ansd see how they differ when worn. Did not put any eyelash primer or any other eye product prior to application. Also, I did not curl my lashes before or after application. Let’s start with the cheapest one I bought.
1. Maybelline Volum’ Express Hypercurl Mascara
Price: PHP 199
Type: Water Proof
-Exclusive curl-lock formula contains sealing wax to make and keep a fully volumized curl from root to tip
– 4x the natural volume
– Locks curls for up to 24 hours
– Contact lens safe, ophthalmologist-tested
– Waterproof, smudgeproof and non-irritating
Definitely does its job. Didn’t notice my lashes appear longer but it does create thicker lashes. There is minimal clumping but can totally be improved after several strokes of brushing.
2. Detail Flutter Mascara
Price: PHP 265.00
Type: Water proof
Ingredients: Not in packaging
I honestly expected something better than the Hypercurl mascara from Maybelline if I were to base from the cost. With that alone, I was disappointed that it didn’t achieve as much volume as the Hypercurl mascara. It does thicken the lashes but didn’t do any lengthening effect. On a positive note, it doesn’t make the lashes clump together, which create a very natural coverage. I didn’t like the fact though that I can’t see the ingredients anywhere in the packaging.
3. Maybelline Volume Express Falsies Mascara
Price: PHP 459
Type: Water Resistant
-The unique and flexible wand helps to lift and separate delivering the look of more lashes
-Patented spoon brush and Kera-Fiber Formula instantly build 8X more volume
-Suitable for contact lens wearers.
I wasn’t disappointed with how much volume it builds up in one coating. There’s clumping going on but can be minimized by multiple one-directional strokes of the mascara brush. Also, the “clumping” of lashes indeed made a “falsies-effect” on the lashes. It was easily removed when washed with cleanser.
4. Revlon Super Length Mascara
Price: PHP 650
– Luscious lengthening formula glides on easily and builds quickly for a beautiful, extended lash look
– Long bristles designed to deliver plush length
– Tapered tip for coating even the smallest lashes
This stuff was amazeballs. Well, it had to, considering the price. It did not create as much volume as Maybelline but it does a very good job in the lengthening effect. (I like products that can live up with their claims). There is minimal clumping, compared to Maybelline and is very light to wear.
So Which One is The Best?
I have to say Revlon Super length mascara is my best bet. It’s currently the product that I use most frequently (which may of course change in the future as I try different kinds of product). I love how it lengthens my eyelashes without too much clumping. It’s also very easy to remove by the end of the day.
However, each of the other mascaras has its place on one’s make up kit depending on preferences and needs. Detail flutter mascara doesn’t clump as much as Maybelline’s Hypercurl, which is perfect for natural look. If you look for more volume for an everyday-wear mascara, Maybelline Hypercurl can be a better choice. If you wish to achieve a night-glam effect without having to wear false eye-lashes, Maybelline Volume Express Falsies can be a good choice. There is some clumping, but does create the “fake-lash” effect. It is buildable so you can do more than 1 coat and curl it right after.
So that’s it for now. Hope this helps. See you in my next post.
